What: A 7.5-mile walk through McHenry to raise money for Normal Moments, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is devoted to alleviating stress for parents dealing with one of the greatest challenges a family can face: the critical illness of a child. Funds from this walk allow Normal Moments to send housecleaners, dog-walkers, landscapers, and other service providers to them to complete mundane tasks that detract from what really matters – quality family time.

When: Saturday, September 27, 2008
9:00 to 10:00 am - Registration
10:00 am - Walk Launch
12:30 pm - Lunch, raffles, DJ, karaoke and more!

Where: Polish-American Legion Hall, Park Street, McHenry, IL

How: Register to walk at www.normalmoments.org and raise
a minimum of $100 in donations.
Printable registration and pledge forms are also available.

All walkers must sign a waiver. Minors must have a parent or
legal guardian sign the waiver on-site the morning of the walk.

All registered walkers will receive a T-shirt before the walk, water along the walk,
and a lunch after the walk. Non-registered walkers may purchase lunch tickets for $5 and enjoy the entertainment for free.
A vegetarian meal option and a cash bar will also be available.

Host Your Own Fund Raiser:
Celebrate Family While Helping Others

Normal Moments is all about quality family time...whether biological or the family of friends with whom we choose to surround ourselves.  Rather than throwing a traditional fund raiser where you get seated with strangers or have to spend a fortune to buy a whole table and someone else dictates how you spend your time, we want YOU to throw you own party with the people you consider your family.  Since Moms are often the most dramatically affected by a child's illness, we'd like to suggest you throw your first fundraising party near Mother's Day.  This also honors our founder, who had an amazing relationship with her daughter.  However, remember that you can always host a Normal Moments party throughout the year.  Make this party fun for you and your guests, and it becomes a great way to enjoy each other's company and still help an important cause.

The money raised will go to support the Normal Moments, which finds and trains volunteers or coordinates with professional service providers to offer services to families of critically ill children. From lawn mowing to house cleaning to pet sitting and more, Normal Moments provides these services so that parents can share more time with their children, both in and out of the hospital, without having to worry about household chores.

March Maidness

MARCH MAIDNESS

March-Maidness.pngWhile basketball fans are parked in front of their televisions watching the NCAA, do something special for families who will truly appreciate it. Donate one of your regularly scheduled house or office cleanings to a family currently facing the challenges of critical childhood illness.

When your child is ill, life changes. It is hard to motivate to do even the simplest task. Much time is spent in doctors’ offices and/or hospitals and dealing with medical issues. Financial matters drain your time and your nerves. Balancing work and family time becomes a challenge and when life does finally give you a few spare moments when you don’t feel the need to catch up on lost sleep, the last thing you want to do is clean the house. Friends and family often offer to help with the cleaning, but it is hard to ask a friend to come clean your house while you sit on your sofa or lay in bed apparently doing nothing. (It is a shame that the things we do to center ourselves, to regain our strength, and to calm our frayed nerves don’t look like work.) On the other hand, if your child’s illness includes a weakened immune system such as is caused by chemotherapy, steroids, and other common treatments, having a clean house helps protect your child from additional problems.

HELP A PARENT IN NEED. Give a Normal Moments Family a guilt-free clean house and some time to spend as a family or alone to rest and rebuild. Please review the questions on our web form and talk with your cleaning service (or hire one for this event) about this donation. Find out what area they are willing to serve and let them know that you are donating their service. You can fill out the form on-line, print it, fax or mail it; then we will contact your cleaning person/service and coordinate their visit.

PLEASE MENTION THIS TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE SO THAT WE CAN COORDINATE MARCH VISITS FOR ALL OUR FAMILIES. PLEASE SUBMIT FORMS BEFORE THE END OF FEBRUARY.
